Part 2: The 6 Best Online Grid Makers for Instagram Just like this, there can be so many ways in which we can plan the layout of a grid for our Instagram profile. This would make the overall profile look uniform and more aesthetically pleasing. For instance, you can see here is a perfect example of a puzzle grid in which some parts of a post are overlapping on the adjacent posts. To catch the attention of their audience, you can come up with an overall theme for your profile using 9 posts (a 3x3 grid). Therefore, to make the most of this layout, a lot of people work on the overall 3x3 grid (3 rows and 3 columns). You might already know that Instagram displays our posts in a 3-column layout. For instance, with an Instagram grid planner, you can come up with an overall theme for your profile or connect various posts via a puzzle. One of the best ways to do that is by using a reliable Instagram grid maker. Try to create a well-balanced layout of elements, not cluttering one corner and leaving another section entirely empty - unless you specifically want your grid to look a certain way. With over a billion profiles on Instagram, it can be a bit difficult to stand out from the crowd. You don’t want to create a pattern that is so busy it distracts from the images of your post. The sky is the limit! You don’t want to overwhelm your grid though, as the main highlight should still be the content of the posts. This can be scanned watercolour elements like brush strokes or splatters and sprinkles, lines, circles, etc. Then start adding what I call “background noise”. Create rectangles (use the rectangle tool on your left side bar, hold Shift to make squares) and fill them with the colour you like. If you want to create a certain pattern, like ascending squares with quotes or something the like, make sure to plan that out first. Now that you have your document all set up, start importing graphic elements! I always start with the background pattern first, before integrating photos or content. Unless you have done this before, do it now, before you lose any of your work! 4 - Add patterns and background elements This will make sure you can’t accidentally drag your grid lines along instead of moving images. Make sure to lock the rulers before continuing to work on the document: go to View > Lock Guides.

Moreover, batteries coming out of service today are likely damaged from crashes, or have some manufacturing defect. Battery makers and automakers regularly change the cell chemistry and architecture of their batteries, making it hard to develop a standard process. “Evaluating the health of batteries is pretty essential to understanding whether it has value,” says Andy Latham, an electric vehicle salvage consultant at Salvage Wire. Before you can reuse an EV battery, you have to know how much juice it retains and whether it’s worthy of a second life. “And with lawyers-they can argue anything.” “It’s legally a bit of a gray area,” says Pesaran, the NREL engineer. GM recently recalled every Chevrolet Bolt because flawed batteries made by the Korean company LG Chem led to fires. One question: Who owns the reused batteries, and who’s responsible if something goes wrong? Automakers know they may be blamed if one of their old batteries is involved in a fire. ![]() But to many in the industry, reuse still feels like a fantastical science experiment, one that might end up in the dustbin of fabulous ideas that didn’t quite work out.Įlectric vehicle battery modules hooked up for health checks at ReJoule's warehouse in Los Angeles. Reusing old electric car batteries is a topic of much academic excitement, supported in the US by grants from agencies like the Department of Energy and the California Energy Commission. They could supplement renewable energy sources like solar and wind, storing energy when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing for moments when they’re not.īy 2030, retired EV batteries could provide 200 gigawatt-hours of energy storage globally each year, according to analysis from the consulting firm McKinsey-roughly 50 times the annual output of the Hoover Dam. Stable Diffusion XL 1.0 is improved in the area of text generation, in addition. “It’s also easier to use, capable of complex designs with basic natural language processing prompting.” “Stable Diffusion XL 1.0 is customizable, ready for fine-tuning for concepts and styles,” Penna said. This screencap is from episode 8, but it’s the same outfit. The next scene is the last appearance of that yellow wrapper, and the first appearance of this very nice ruffled nightgown, worn with a nightcap which we also see in episode 4. Put the little heart patches on the pirate shirts. It’s delightful, it’s historical, it’s romantic, and it’d be a nice parallel to that heart appliqué on the flag in the last scene of episode 10. It wouldn’t take any extra time, you don’t need to hand sew them! You can hem the slit and sew the heart in by machine just fine, I’ve done it on my everyday shirts, you just need to hand-baste them first, and then you do a little bar tack by hand and it’s all set. Give us some cute shirt reinforcements in season 2. I want the cute little heart shaped shirt reinforcements. Even if it doesn’t show up well on screen, it should be there. Isn’t that cute? I think if you’re making a romance about 18th-century pirates, you should be required by law to have at least one such shirt reinforcement. (These examples are all late 18th century, and I don’t know how early they started appearing, but for the purposes of this show it really doesn’t matter.) Often it’s just some detached buttonhole stitch and a bar tack, but sometimes there’s a little heart-shaped piece of fabric sewn onto the inside! Late 18th-century shirt, sold by Meg Andrews but the listing appears to have been taken down.īeing the same fabric as the rest of the shirt and sewn to the inside makes them a bit difficult to see, but this shirt and this shirt also have them. ![]() The slits down the front of the shirts are hemmed and need some sort of reinforcement at the bottom to keep them from ripping. If nowhere else, then at least for the flirty stabbing scene!īut the reason I really want more historical shirt slits is because of the little reinforcement patches. I think if Ed gets to wear crop-tops with a bit of tummy showing, Stede deserves to have a shirt or two with a historically accurate plunging neckline. The ones on the ruffled shirts are also very much on the short side, and early 18th-century shirt slits go a lot further down. To be fair, they do leave it as a slit without buttons on the ruffled shirts, including the one they both wore in episode 4, but not on any of the ones without ruffles down the front. It’s a pretty long slit early in the 18th century and shorter by the end of the century, so in a show like this they could make it any length they wanted. ( Shirt buckles are an option, I suppose, but not super common, and it might be a bit odd to see one on an otherwise unbuttoned shirt.) Unknown man by Michael Dahl, 1713, National Portrait Gallery. An 18th century shirt typically fastens only at the collar with 2 or 3 buttons (though a ribbon through two buttonholes is also an option, and one I’d love to see on film) and then below the collar there’s just a hemmed slit with no closures at all. I can understand why you’d want your characters to have the option to be varying amounts of buttoned-up, but I still wish we’d seen a few more proper 18th-century shirt fronts. There’s a very anachronistic cravat covering most of it, but you can see that one of the top buttons is fastened. Nearly all of his shirts have this narrow little button placket down the front. ![]() I talked about shirts in part 1, and how most of Stede’s shirts are pretty good, but I’d like to talk a bit more specifically about the front closures here. ![]() He wears the same outfit for a late-night fencing lesson, but without the waistcoat. From what I can see, the waistcoat length looks 1760s-ish. Although the traditional desirability of linen has long since waned, most mass-produced ‘coffin-sets’ (matching shrouds and coffin linings) currently provided by undertakers are nevertheless white. The emblematic whiteness of grave-clothes dates back at least to the Jacobean period, when the epigraph to John Donne's poem Death's Duell stated: ‘just as the body is shrouded in white linen, may be the soul’. A woman interviewed in 1980 in a Suffolk village told me ‘the washing is so that you're spotless to meet the Lamb of God’. Washing cleansed not only the sweat of death, but the sins of the earthly life, a sort of lay absolution. The corpse also had ambiguous spiritual status: the care it received was thought somehow to influence the future life of the soul. Old British customs and beliefs - such as the belief that a signature taken while the corpse is still warm had the same status as in life, that a corpse could indicate displeasure if a will read before it was false, or that it would bleed if a murderer came into its vicinity - seem to attribute sentience to the dead body. British funeral practices reveal that there existed a conception, said by anthropologists also to operate in many other societies, of a transitional period between death and burial in which the body was regarded as ‘neither alive nor fully dead’ In a physical sense, of course, we are all familiar with this notion - in the currently continuing difficulty in defining the precise moment of death, the possibility of resuscitation, and in the phenomenon of organs, which, though extracted from corpses, are yet sufficiently alive to support life again in the body of another. While the corpse retains identity, personality is absent. Part of this effect derives from its embodiment of the power of death, part from the strangeness death works upon it. The dead body is an object of great potency, with a powerful presence of its own. Yet even at the beginning of the twenty-first century, relatives of victims of murder or accident - including drowning at sea - continue to do all they can to retrieve lost bodies in order to give them decent disposal. Funerary practices altered a great deal in the twentieth century, and the meanings which attached to them in past ages have become attenuated. A corpse whose eyes refused to close was traditionally believed to presage further deaths, so closing the eyes was imperative to forestall the omen, and to prevent survivors' unease. The eyelids are generally the first part of the body to set in rigor mortis, just before the jaw, hours after death. ![]() Multipotent custom In the past, each aspect of lay funerary ritual had multiple levels of practical justification and traditional meaning. However, in cases of death at home undertakers are now generally swiftly called to remove the body, and the process of laying-out is done by available staff - male or female - away from the location of death or mourning. Today the female tradition is continued to some extent inasmuch as most hospital, hospice, and district nurses who do the job are women. ![]() It involved undressing and washing the body, plugging its orifices, if necessary placing coins (traditionally pennies) on the eyelids, and a bandage under the chin, to hold these parts closed, dressing the body in its grave clothes, and holding limbs straight (with bandages or ribbons around the body at the elbows, wrists, and ankles, and sometimes a thread around the big toes) ready for placing in the coffin. The ‘laying-out’ of the body - or ‘rendering the last offices’ was in the past a job traditionally done by women, often the local midwife. Corpse care In Britain, funerary practices begin with the lay or official declaration of death, and consist of small attentions to the body itself, such as closing the eyes and covering the face. In times of exigency such as war, disaster, pestilence, or in cases of violent death where the imperatives of pathology and judicial rules take precedence over family wishes for the care of the body, norms of funerary behaviour are often breached, adding to the trauma of events. Funeral practices: British customs Funerary practices are observed in every culture when a dead body is to be disposed of.
